![]() ![]() In June of 2017, I knew about lo-fi a little bit, but always thought it was kinda s#. Sarcastic Sounds: I can pinpoint the exact time I started making lo-fi. I heard “Through The Wire,” the first time I’m like “oh this is what Kanye does or you should do.” Something about that really spoke to me, I wanted to incorporate that into my beats.ĪllHipHop: When did you fall in love with lo-fi? The really soulful sped-up samples from the early 2000’s. Sarcastic Sounds: I liked how soulful all his beats were, Kanye and Just Blaze as well. ![]() Not necessarily musically but in terms of inspiration, definitely Drake because he’s from Toronto and obviously one of the biggest artists in the world. Sarcastic Sounds: Definitely my biggest influence was Kanye in terms of production and sampling. Lived here my whole life.ĪllHipHop: Biggest influences growing up? Grew up in a pretty musical household, my dad plays piano and my brother plays bass. Sarcastic Sounds: It was good, I grew up in North Toronto. Now at only 20 years old, he returns to unleash his newest song titled “change ur mind,” tapping Claire Rosinkranz and fellow Columbia label-mate Clinton Kane.ĪllHipHop: How was it growing up in Toronto? Getting his start as a young producer and competing in Battle of the Beat Makers, Sarcastic Sounds would go on to land producer credit on “Mahogany,” off Lil Wayne’s Funeral album.īeyond that, he’s remixed and collaborated with everyone from Powfu to Alec Benjamin to StaySolidRocky. Hailing from Toronto, the producer has cemented his name as a staple in the low-fi music scene, best known for hit singles such as “I Don’t Sleep” and “it’s OK to Cry.” His records are not only relatable but provide healing power to all those who hear it. He signed on with Columbia Records in 2020, and in addition to collaborations with Powfu and Sista Prod, he released several new songs of his own including "Scared of the World" and "Laugh.Sarcastic Sounds is in his own lane, providing his own unique blend of lo-fi, hip-hop, alternative, and pop. Sarcastic Sounds' viral appeal continued to grow, with his tracks all racking up huge numbers of streams. A few months later, the two collaborated on music for a solid week, resulting in the beat that became "Mahogany" on Lil Wayne's 2020 album Funeral. ![]() ![]() That year, Fedryk also participated in a beatmaking competition that brought him to the attention of classic rap producer Mannie Fresh. Songs released in 2018 included "Jealousy," "I Can't Help," "I Don't Sleep," and the Frankie Cosmos-sampling track "Frankee," all of which were under two minutes and used a similarly melancholic melodic approach. In 2017, he became enamored with lo-fi hip-hop and sample manipulation, applying this style to his earliest singles. By his early teens, he was learning music production and selling his instrumental compositions online under the moniker "Sarcastic Asshole." When he actually started making sales, he rethought the name and quickly changed it to Sarcastic Sounds. Sarcastic Sounds was born Jeremy Fedryk in 2000. A blend of lo-fi hip-hop, emotional undercurrents, and pop hooks brought Sarcastic Sounds tens of millions of streams of singles like 2018's "I Don't Sleep" and his 2020 collaboration with Powfu and Rxseboy, "I'll Come Back for You." Canadian producer and vocalist Sarcastic Sounds moved from selling beats on the Internet to producing a track for Lil Wayne and signing with Columbia. ![]()
